Space Tourism – Space Tourists Really Take Off!

With the first space hotel scheduled to open up in 2012, qualifications to work at such an establishment will require a merging of hospitality with some form of space intelligence–while paying a salary range of $80,000 to $90,000 dollars annually. Presently, government money which is associated with any type of space program is usually spent on Earth. And with the massive number of baby boomers approaching retirement, similar to an all-star line-up on the football field, NASA may find it difficult to maintain its status quo in regard to any long-term budget without their home-team’s financial backing.

This will bring private space sectors into a new light and a new day, as NASA continuously struggles with budget and financial problems for their operations, yet refuses to work with space tourism and their future launchings. Additionally, inflation and the dropping value of the U.S. dollar are influencing many areas behind the scenes, such as NASA’s shuttle operations and Bigelow’s recent statement regarding moving up his Sundancer module launching due to raising operational costs.

Commercialization of Space

Another well-known hotel company, the Hilton, is also looking into developing a space hotel within the next 15 to 20 years. Where all of this would be considered a far-fetched idea at one time, today it represents a huge market that is worth billions of dollars–if barriers can be overcome–such as technical and economic issues. Private companies and travel agencies are working together for the possibilities of space tourism, examining orbiting hotels, spacewalk, and anything else that would promote this final frontier of tourism-while also toying with the idea of maintaining space accommodations for NASA researchers if needed.
